Art
Art Curriculum
In SBPS, we believe that art is integral to the holistic development of every student. Through art education, we nurture 21st century knowledge, skills and dispositions, and we aim to enable every student to enjoy art, communicate visually and make meaning through connecting with society and culture.
Civic, Global Awareness and Cross-Cultural Literacy
Students will explore artworks from different cultures and histories, deepening their awareness and appreciation of both local and global communities. This helps them develop a sense of belonging and identity, while encouraging them to find their own voice and imagination as they explore and create.
Critical, Adaptive and Inventive Thinking
Through art making and art discussion, students will develop their critical, adaptive and inventive thinking. During art-making, they will experiment with different materials and techniques to express their ideas, learning to take creative risks and think flexibly when solving problems. In art discussions, they will practise reasoning, considering different perspectives, and reflecting critically on artworks — skills that are valuable in all areas of learning.
Communication, Collaboration and Information Skills
Art has its own language, and students will learn to use it to interpret and share their ideas. Through various artistic activities, they will also develop communication and collaboration skills — learning to be open to different perspectives, work respectfully with their classmates, and take shared responsibility for their work.
Our Programme Over 6 Years
By the end of their 6 years of art education, all students will be able to see, express and appreciate Art. They will learn from a rich variety of artists, including Singapore and international masters, contemporary artists, and even fellow primary school students, through three themes that broaden in scope as they progress through the school:
-
Self and Immediate Environment
-
Singapore Past, Present and Future
-
The World and Region We Live In
