Our Beliefs About Chinese Language Learning
Every student can be develop into effective communicators and self-directed learners with a passion for the Mother Tongue Language and deep understanding of their cultural heritage.
The Core Curriculum
The Chinese Language Curriculum comprise of teaching and learning activities that promote an active and engaging learning environment. Teaching and learning strategies employed are geared towards encouraging students to explore language concepts in an authentic and applicable context with an emphasis on interactive and communicative skills.
Recognizing that every student is different, differentiated instruction is incorporated through activities and exercises that takes into account students’ interest, readiness level and aptitude. Formative Assessment strategies are also integrated to monitor students’ progress throughout their learning.
Key Programmes
In order to develop effective communicators and self-directed learners with a passion for Chinese Language, programmes are introduced and implemented to enhance student’s learning. In order for our students to develop a deeper understanding of their cultural heritage, a myriad of activities have been designed and prepared with care. These key programmes embodied our beliefs about the teaching and learning of the Chinese Language, which is that Chinese Language is a living language; one that is used on a day to day basis, in various environments, by students who are articulate, confident and passionate about their mother tongue.
The Key Programmes are:
School Wide Reading Programme for P1-P6
The objective of this programme is to encourage the love and enjoyment of reading through exposure to extensive and different genres & medium of reading materials. The programme aims to support our students in cultivating good reading habits. This programme also seek to activate and reinforce other literacy and language skills. In this programme, reading materials are specially curated and selected for different levels. To accompany these reading materials, activities that improve reading comprehension have also been developed.
Chinese E-Class Interactive Learning Programme
The CL Department utilises the “My Virtual Classroom” e-class platform (https://go.gov.sg/sbpscleclass) to extend students’ learning beyond the classroom and promote greater engagement in language learning. Through interactive programmes such as online reading competitions, vocabulary challenges, students are encouraged to cultivate positive reading habits and strengthen their Chinese Language skills in an engaging and meaningful manner.
The platform supports differentiated and student-centred learning by incorporating multimedia resources, gamified activities, and interactive tasks that cater to different learning profiles. Teachers also make use of participation data and learning analytics to monitor students’ engagement levels, identify learning needs, and provide timely intervention and support where necessary.
Through these programmes, the department aims to foster self-directed learners who are equipped with strong communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and a lifelong appreciation for the Chinese Language and culture.
Cool Chinese Programme
Cool Chinese is an engaging and dynamic programme designed to make learning the Chinese language fun, practical, and meaningful. The programme aims to inspire learners to develop confidence in speaking, reading, and understanding Chinese through interactive activities, cultural experiences, and creative communication.

An Array of Learning Approaches
A myriad of learning activities and materials have been designed for students. Learning should be interactive to enable students to focus and look forward to every lesson. By using an assortment of methods of teaching & learning approached and an abundance of learning materials, students will have more passion learning Chinese Language and Culture.
Chinese New Year (Cultural Activities)
The objective of this programme is to create an immersive and authentic environment for learning and appreciating the Chinese Culture. By introducing different elements of the Chinese Culture, the programme aims to deepen interest in Chinese Language and culture.
Mother Tongue Fortnight (Chinese Language)
The objective of this programme is to introduce different culture and language activities to the various levels so as to deepen the interest of the Chinese Language and culture in our students.
Cultural Awareness Programme
During the Annual Cultural Camp, Primary 3 students are exposed to the Chinese Culture in an immersive and entertaining programme. Students are introduced to various Chinese customs and traditions by taking part in Chinese traditional games and traditional crafts. Student-designed posters about these Chinese traditional games are also presented during the Annual Cultural Camp for student’s learning.
Developing Student Talents through Competitions
National Text Recital Competition
The National Text Recital Competition is jointly organized by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL) and several primary schools. The competition aims to strengthen students’ Chinese reading skills and deepen their appreciation of the language.
Every year, our school selects and trains talented students from the Primary 3 and Primary 4 Higher Chinese classes who have a strong passion for the Chinese language to participate in the competition. Through the training process, students not only improve their recitation and presentation skills, but also gain greater confidence and appreciation for the language.
Our students have consistently achieved commendable results in the competition. In 2025, our students attained 3 Bronze Awards in the Individual Category and 3 Bronze Awards in the Group Category.
GoodTalk (Global Village) International Children & Youth Bilingual Speech Conference
The GoodTalk (Global Village) International Children & Youth Bilingual Speech Conference aims to provide students with an international platform to develop their bilingual communication and public speaking skills, while promoting cultural exchange and confidence in language learning.
Each year, selected students represent the school in the conference and advance to the finals, where they have opportunities to interact and exchange ideas with students from China, collaborate with peers from different backgrounds, and showcase their speech and presentation skills on the international stage. Through this meaningful experience, students strengthen their communication abilities, broaden their global perspectives, and deepen their appreciation for bilingual learning.
Our students have also achieved commendable results at the conference. In 2024, our students attained 1 Silver Award and 1 Bronze Award. In 2025, our school received the Most Promising Award. These achievements reflect our students’ confidence, dedication, resilience, and passion for learning.
